Matthew 26:41 keep watch I'm praying so you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit he's willing, but the body is week.
Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane want to pray as he prepare for the final stage of his early ministry. the tadk ahead was so demanding that is needed his disciples to watch and pray along with him.
Why did Jesus was praying his disciples was busy sleeping. He work them and encourage them to pray so that they will not give in to temptation.
It was obvious that Jesus personal struggle was different from that of his disciples. Though the sincerely wanted to pray with Jesus but there personal struggle with sleep could not allow them.
We all have personal weakness to battles. we all have personal struggles. We all have temptations that we face daily. We all have different points of concern. Some struggle with temptation of greed, some on money, some on sexual immoralities, some on drinking, some on drugs abuse, why some on personal bad, habits and some on anger.
In all this struggle zeal in the spirit is often go along with weakness of the flesh.
Prayer is always important in the course of our personal struggle. The art of watching and praying signifies spiritual vigilance required of believers in face of temptation.
Let us relay on God to resist temptation and remain faithful to his will. God Grace can always help us to overcome.
The way to overcome temptation is to pray.
Lord give me the strength and grace to overcome my personal struggles against temptation. Amen
