A WARNING AGAINST EVIL IMITATION

Leviticus 18:3 You must not do as they do in Egypt, where you used to live, and you must not do as they do in the land of Canaan, where ibam bringing you. Do not follow their practices.

The israelites had left Egypt and were heading toward Canaan, but God warned them not to imitate the evil practices of either the land Egypt or Canaan.

Egypt symbolized their past, and Canaan there future.

They were warned not to allow either to define them.

Their way of life was to come from the standard laid down by God Himself.

They were to desist from imitating the evil practices of their environment and resist the pull of surrounding cultures.

This warning was necessary because God knew how easily the Israelites would find the practices of other nations interesting.

Like a caring parent would warn their child, remember the son of whom you are, God wanted the israelites to retain their identity in him.

We face the challenges of evil imitation today.

The world urges us to conform whether in morality, ambition, our values.

But God calls us to be different.

Like a fish swimming upstream, we are not meant to drift with the current of the worldly trend but to walk in the spirit.

Living differently may be hard, but it brings freedom, peace, and lasting joy.

Your past doesn't define you, and the world around you cannot dictate your future.

Only God can, when you live in accordance with his standard.

We are to jealously guard our identity in Christ by resisting the temptation of following sinful trend in worldly pattern.

Loving father, give me strength to resist sinful trend in worldly pattern.

The life of a Christian is not shaped by culture but by the word of God.
