Malachi 2:17 You have wearied the lord with your word. Yet you say, how have we wearied him? By saying, everyone who does evil is good in the sight of the Lord, and he delights in them, or by asking, where is the God of justice.
Malachi addressed the people of Israel after their return from exile.
The post exilic community faced various challenges.
They were disillusioned and struggled with their faith.
Today's passage reveals their spiritual apathy and their tendency to question God's justice.
They were essentially accusing God of inaction, suggesting that he either overlooked evil or that he approved it.
The Lord expresses his weariness with their insincere words and attitudes, the israelites had become complacent, failing to recognize the gravity of their statements about gods character.
They played down his justice while embracing a distorted view of morality.
Today, we see a reflection of the human condition, where we often struggle with doubts and frustrations regarding divine justice in the midst of a world prevalent with inequality.
However, we must not succumb to the temptation of justifying wrong doing or undermining God's justice for our convenience.
Moreover, we are called to uphold a standard of truth.
Just as the Isrealites question God, we too may find ourselves wrestling with our faith during difficult times.
It is crucial that we seek understanding rather than perpetuating doubt.
Death and life are in the power of the tongue.
Those who love it will eat its fruits.
This reminds us of the weight our words carry.
They can either uplift or tear down, affirm faith or sow discord.
As we reflect on this message, let us strive to ensure our words reflect the truth of God's character and the righteousness that he calls us to embody.
Heavenly father, help me to remain true to you. Even in the face of injustice.
Though the world may be filled with evil and injustice, God remains a righteous judge.
