Paul wrote to the church in colossian, a city in Asia minor, to address heresies and false teaching threatening to lead believes away from the true faith in christ.
He warned the colossians Christian against being ensnared by deceptive philosophy. He wanted the colossians belivers to be on guard against being led astray from the truth.
The deceptive philosophy is based on worldly wisdom, which is in contrast with the wisdom of christ.
They denote human tradition and elemental spiritual forces that are in opposition to the truth of the sufficiency of christ.
The best way to guard against this deceptive influence is by remaining steadfast in the truth of the gospel and deeply rooted in the teachings of christ.
Today, there are many controversial teaching that are based on human reasons and not on biblical truth.
The devil counterfeits the Christian faith by appealing to the mind, heart and will, using diluted teaching from being deceived, we must have the understanding that in Christ alone we find treasure of wisdom and knowledge required for Christians living. Heresy and false teaching are dangerous, especially, for people who enjoy speculation.
They come in different forms but are characterized by pride, zeal without knowledge and lack of focus on christ.
We can test teaching by evaluating their source, method and purpose knowing if they are based on the scriptures or human philosophy.
Therefore, let us be wary of teachings that do not discourage sin and encourage dependence on christ.
Heavenly father, give me grace and wisdom to resist deceptive teaching.
