The shame of unfaithfulness

Ezekiel 16:44 Everyone who quotes proverbs will quote this proverb about you like mother like daughter.

God addressed the unfaithfulness of the people of Judah.

He used the analogy of a girl abandoned as a newborn, but grew up to become a beautiful and desirable woman. However, she became unfaithful to her husband using her beauty and resources to engage in sexual immorality in a shameful manner.

God used this as a metaphor for the people of Judah who were nurtured and blessed by him.

Rather than being faithful to God, they followed Idols and engaged in disgraceful sinful behaviors.

Their unfaithfulness would become a proverb like mother,  like daughter, as a way of mocking them. The saying is a proverb that the children inherited the character of their parents.

It is a reference to the shameful and sinful behaviors of Judah as a reflection of their immoral heritage from one generation to another.

As Christians, how we live our lives today is a legacy for the next generation. Our shameful practice are nether hidden to God nor our young ones to whom we pretend to be righteous and committed to godliness.

Today, the standard of holiness is lowered in our families and our churches.

Faithfulness to God and in our marriage or interpersonal relationship is becoming more difficult from generation to generation.

We have repaid the Faithfulness of God with unfaithfulness. It is very shameful that we cannot make ourselves a good example to the next generation. Therefore, let us watch out for every shameful in our lives  and turn to God in genuine repentance.

Faitful lord help me to be an Example of Faithfulness and rebuke all shameful act of unfaithfulness in my life. AMEN.
